Kerala, a state in southern India, is one of the poorest states in the country.

P.V. Alexander has been ministering to the people of Kerala, India, for more than 40 years. In 1973, P.V. Alexander, an Indian from the state of Kerala, India, graduated from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. He returned to his native land and began to preach the restoration of the original New Testament Christianity.

In the beginning of Brother Alexander's ministry in 1973, he outlined a bold five-year plan which included evangelistic meetings and the establishment of many churches patterned after the New Testament Church. He planned to spread his ministry throughout the state of Kerala, in southern India. (see dark blue on map.)

About Kerala, India

The state of Kerala is home to more than 33 million people. Kerala has relatively few major corporations and manufacturing plants. The economy is primarily a service-oriented economy. While some jobs are available, Kerala has a large percentage of people who are underemployed and struggle to provide for their families. Since the 1980s, men have been going to the Persian Gulf for work and sending money home.

Alcohol is one of the top products of the region, and alcohol-related problems plague the people. Bing-drinking is a serious problem in the region. (taken from the Economist) Crime rates in Kerala continue to be one of the highest in India, particularly crimes against women.

Religions in Kerala are a mixture of different faiths, most significantly Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. Kerala has a reputation of being, communally one of the most tolerant states in India, with an estimated 19 percent of the population being Christian.
